In the past few years, I have had the privilege of working with several beautiful humans as they travelled through the Health Canada Special Access Program to access Psilocybin Assisted Therapy. This program is set up to allow individuals struggling with end-of-life distress and treatment-resistant depression exceptional access to psilocybin treatment. In the past 3 years, this program has been increasingly difficult to access as Health Canada has become more particular with the inclusion criteria. Which means fewer individuals were able to access the program.
I was just part of a Toronto Star article that focused on the Special Access Program and the impact of the program on the individuals and practitioners involved in the process. At one time, the Special Access Program was seen as a potential pathway to accessing psilocybin treatment, and unfortunately, we now know that it is not the case. The article shares stories and calls for the psychedelic community to begin developing new pathways to psilocybin-assisted therapy.
